This
Planar project won Shur Associates an AIA/DJC Award for Excellence. The
building program included new cleanroom and office design for a 45,000
SF high-technology production facility. The design incorporated
equipment placement, production support offices, lunchroom, shower
facilities, locker rooms, restrooms, and cleanrooms. The concept is
based on the “Main Street” model, creating a linear flow for
production with a parallel flow for office support activities. A
windowed air plenum wall separates the two areas.
Shur
Associates built two high-tech cleanrooms, one a Class 100 and the other
a Class 100,000. By implementing a U-shape for the larger cleanroom, the
Class 100, the design minimized initial cost, operating cost, and square
footage, and made it easy to add or eliminate equipment.
Incorporating
new management ideas into the design of its new facility helped Planar
Systems ensure quality products by keeping workers at all levels of
production in contact with the products; Planar’s engineers have
windows looking out on the production lines, so they can spot problems
in process. Involving members of all departmental teams at every stage
of production ensures a sound final product. Shur Associates believes
that a quality work environment is the heart of every innovative
project.
Remodel
of 20,000 SF of existing production area for flat screen manufacturing.
New equipment has enabled the company to keep pace with increased orders
in rapidly expanding flat screen markets. Work featured redesign and
relocation of Customer Service and Quality Assurance Departments. New
shipping access doors provide direct; Just-in-time finished product flow
from production areas.
