The
Benton County Bank was established in 1976 as a new bank. The Board of
Directors sought an identity in the design of the building. The proposed
building would occupy the site of the former Corvallis Opera House. The
program called for a building characteristic of the 1800's.
Specific
program requirements included: 8,000 square feet of space, 200 square
feet of vault, 600 safe deposit boxes, computer terminal, board room for
ten people, coffee room, executive office, eight teller stations, night
deposit drive-in teller windows and an exterior walk-up teller window.
This
bank was designed to be a major part of the social life of downtown
Corvallis. The site is located on the most pedestrian used streets in
the city. The first floor of the building consists of entry portico,
teller stations, officer stations, main lobby, drive-up teller, and an
exterior walk-up teller window.
The
portico enables the pedestrians to walk along the building, under cover,
before they enter. The portico is an extension of the lobby and is
visible from most of the surrounding streets. The second floor overhang
is visible from any approach.
